RM of Medstead’s story
The Rural Municipality of Medstead No. 497 was incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913. It lies in west-central Saskatchewan and takes in the village of Medstead, where the RM office is located.
Besides Medstead, the municipality surrounds a number of smaller communities and localities: Avery, Belbutte, Birch Lake, Cater, Glenbush and Park Bluff.
Saskatchewan Highways 3 and 794 run through the area today. A Canadian Pacific Railway line also served the municipality in the past, though it has since been abandoned. The RM is run by an elected council and an appointed administrator, who meet on the second Friday of each month.
